Do you go through life feeling blah? Do you wake up and go through the motions, but don’t really get into the present moment in your daily routine? Maybe you worry all the time. Or do you constantly complain about not having anything to wear to the traffic?
Well, if you are experiencing or living like any of the above descriptions than you are living life in a low vibrational frequency.
Let me explain in a bit more detail.
I have a morning practice that I do every day. I carve out time to look inward and to meditate, or clear my chakras, or do some EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) work. All of this helps to clear out the noise for me and let my truth shine through. Yes this may sound a bit woo woo to you, but I am a bit woo woo. And I’m not going to change. =)
I realized that in order for me to do my best work, I need to work at a very high vibration. Now if you aren’t familiar with the law of attraction there is a great book called Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks. It’s a little out there, but it is a magical book. I read it over 10 years ago. I am re-reading it now and I forgot how much it touched me the first time.
This book isn’t for everyone, but I LOVED it. Please know I was born and raised a Catholic, and I view myself as more spiritual and open to what the Universe has in store for me. Some people use the words Universe, God, or Spirit. Whatever works for you is what you should use. Just because a book uses the word Universe doesn’t mean you can’t replace it with the word God.
So, in this book they talk about a 22 point emotional guidance scale. 22 being fear, depression and 1 being joy, appreciation, love.
Here is the full list:
1. Joy, Appreciation, Love, Freedom
2. Passion
3. Enthusiasm, Happiness
4. Belief, Positive expectation
5. Optimism
6. Hopefulness
7. Contentment
8. Boredom
9. Pessimism
10. Frustration/irritation
11. Overwhelmed
12. Disappointment
13. Doubt
14. Worry
15. Blame
16. Discouragement
17. Anger
18. Revenge
19. Hatred/Rage
20. Jealously
21. Insecurity, Guilt, Unworthiness
22. Fear, Grief, Depression, Powerless
“If you’re not selfish enough to come into vibrational alignment with who you really are, you have nothing to give anyone anyway.” Esther Hicks
I generally stay in the upper 1-5 range, that’s my sweet spot. But there was a day last week that I was stuck at around 7-9 basically feeling content, bored, and a bit pessimistic. I woke up in this mood. I had such an amazing day the previous day, but this particular morning I woke up feeling blah and a bit bored.
If you have spent any time with me, bored is not an adjective you would normally use to describe my energy level. So I knew something was off.
It was a rest day for me for my workouts. (In hindsight I probably should have gone and done a workout) I took my boys to school and came back and tried to get some work done, but realized quickly I just couldn’t create my best work in this mood.
Take the time to get happy, in any way you can. Your best work will shine thru. (tweet this!)
I stopped everything and I quieted my mind and listened to an ease mediation I have from the lovely Lana Shlafer. It helped, but didn’t pull me up enough. I then listened to some guided visualisations from Esther Hicks and those helped a bit too, but not enough.
I then tried gridding, another tool that is very useful but once again it just didn’t move the needle enough. I then tried EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and nothing was moving me up as far as I wanted to go. The key is you can’t jump steps, even if you want to. It doesn’t work that way. I was feeling hopeful and optimistic, but I needed to get to at least level 4 which is belief and positive expectation for me to feel like I could get my work done the way I wanted.
But I didn’t give up. I knew I was on the right path. So I decided to put on some music and started with Pharrell’s Happy, and then went to Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk” And I was up and dancing around my office like a fool.
I didn’t care if I looked silly. There was no one around. I could feel this was what my body needed this particular day. Remember, I work out at least 5 days a week and my body loves to move and actually craves movement. I kept finding more and more positive music and after about 20 minutes of this I felt FANTASTIC.
Do whatever you can to find your zone of genius so you can create your best work. (tweet this!)
I knew I was ready to tackle the work I needed to do. I had achieved getting all the way up to happy and enthusiastic by doing this and it worked wonders for me.
Yes it took me 90 minutes to get up the scale, but I tell you it is SO worth it to me. I don’t want to be stuck in a negative mindset. Yes being content is fine, but not for me when I know I have the power to have more. I want to live life feeling happy, passionate and appreciative as much as I possibly can.
I am not going to lie, I have low days, but I allow myself to nurture myself when those come, which is rare. And this particular day I knew I could move the needle with a little effort.
If you don’t start figuring out how you want to feel, you’re going to stay feeling blah. (tweet this!).
So I ask you, do you take notice of how you feel each day? What steps do you take when you know you have woken up on the wrong side of the bed?
